Kigali, 9th November 2025

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote financial literacy and strengthen economic knowledge among Rwanda’s youth, the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR) delivered an insightful public lecture at Kigali Independent University ULK under the theme “Understanding Exchange Rate Dynamics in Rwanda.”

The lecture, held at ULK’s Kigali Campus, brought together students, faculty members, and invited guests for an engaging session led by experts from NBR’s Research and Monetary Policy Departments. The event provided participants with a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s exchange rate regime, the factors influencing currency movements, and how these dynamics impact inflation, trade, and national economic growth.

In his opening remarks, the ULK Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Byiringiro Enock commended the National Bank of Rwanda for its initiative in supporting academic institutions through knowledge-sharing and outreach programs. He emphasized that such collaborations contribute significantly to ULK’s mission of producing competent, innovative, and ethical graduates who can drive Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation.

The NBR delegation, composed of Nyalihama Christian, Senior Principal and Manager Financial Research Department, Ndarihoranye Augusting Senior Economist,  Dr. Placide Aime Kwizera, Manager of Economic Analysis, and Gloria Munana Kanakintama, Policy Communication Analyst, guided participants through an interactive session that encouraged dialogue on monetary policy and macroeconomic management. The discussion also explored how exchange rate stability contributes to sustainable economic growth and supports Rwanda’s broader development goals.

Students actively engaged with the presenters, posing questions on the relationship between exchange rates, inflation, and trade competitiveness. The speakers encouraged students to pursue research in monetary economics and to take advantage of Rwanda’s growing financial sector as a space for professional growth and contribution.

This lecture reflects the National Bank of Rwanda’s commitment to promoting financial literacy and informed economic decision making among the youth. By partnering with universities such as ULK, NBR continues to empower future leaders with the knowledge and analytical skills needed to participate actively in the country’s economic transformation.

The event also reinforced ULK’s dedication to bridging academic learning with real world practice, offering its students opportunities to engage directly with national institutions and industry experts. Such collaborations align with ULK’s broader vision of excellence in teaching, research, and community service.

ULK extends its heartfelt appreciation to the National Bank of Rwanda for this valuable contribution to its academic community and looks forward to continued partnership in fostering financial education and policy dialogue.
